Jude went to the Pediatrician this morning for his second round of vaccines and a four month check up. He now weighs 14 pounds 12 ounces and is 26 inches long. In four short months he has more then doubled in weight and grown 6 inches in length. I swear he feels heavier then that but I will take their word for it. I never paid attention to these stats before but apparently he is in the 50% percentile for weight and head size but the 80% for length.
He had to get two shots today. They do one in each leg but two nurses do it at the same time to make the process very short for him. Of course he cried immediately after he felt the pinch but less then 60 seconds later he stopped. He stopped right after we walked out the door. Something about being outside always makes him stop crying no matter what it is he is upset about. I guess that’s a good thing. We have another appointment in two months, right after Thanksgiving. He fell asleep in the car on the way home and is still sleeping so I will take a picture of his cute, chubby, bandaged legs when he wakes up.
On Saturday Jude is going to have some Fall photos taken by a professional photographer. Jim’s mom arranged for these to be done for us. Tomorrow we will have to go see if we can find him something Fall/Halloween related for him to wear. Unfortunelty, it is still extremely hot here and the shoot is outside so hopefully we can find something without long sleeves. Once I receive those pictures they will most definitely be posted on here as well.
For about two weeks he was great but now he is back to chewing on everything and getting frustrated at times when they hurt the most.
We pretty much have to constantly distract him when they are hurting.
Usually if all else fails taking him outside works to keep him distracted (it’s nice at night but during the day, when it’s 90 degrees, we try to keep him distracted inside for as long as possible!)
Still eating just 4 ounces at a time but he has been eating often; he probably eats about 32 ounces a day.
We will look into the rice cereal sometime within the next month or so. We’re not really in a rush to get him started on food.
He has started trying to hold the bottle himself. Although it seems helpful it is really kind of annoying because he doesn’t sit still when we try to feed him and he is always knocking the bottle out of his mouth and then getting upset at us for it.
Sleeps about 8 hours every night but cries a few times during those hours when he realizes his pacifier has fallen out. We just run over and put it back in and he goes right back to sleep (his eyes never really open during this process).
He takes a couple naps during the day. Usually a few short ones (about 45 minutes) and one long one (2-4 hours). However, yesterday he slept MAYBE 2 hours total. He has days like that sometimes.
He has been sleeping in his portable crib every night and during most naps. He got a little big for sleeping comfortably in the stroller and swing so I’m glad he likes it.
His eye is completely healed. Even though the doctor gave us drops it healed almost all the way before we even had time to pick up the prescription so I don’t think it was an infection. I think it was just a blocked tear duct but we used the drops for a few days to be safe.
A week from Thursday he has an appointment for the second round of vaccines. We can find out then how much he weighs and how tall he is.
He has rolled over three times now. He doesn’t care to be on his stomach so I’m not surprised he doesn’t really try to roll over much.
He always has his feet in his hands or his hands in his mouth, or both.
He has been ‘sitting up’ while he is in the stroller. His balance is obviously horrible but he can pull himself up from the reclined position.
He is constantly moving. Flailing around, kicking, etc. He is going to be quite a bit of work when he starts crawling/walking. He just can’t keep still these days.
Out and About
We took him to the driving range a couple weeks ago and he loved watching Jim and Eric hit golf balls while I held him in the carrier.
We also took him to downtown Disney last Friday night just to get out of the house. He loved looking around at all the lights.
ALMOST FORGOT! He laughs a lot when the dogs play. He likes when Miller shakes his head and when he sneezes. He also laughs a lot when we make him pet the cat. He loves animals. Good thing!
Turns out it was some kind of bacterial infection. Contagious apparently so I guess my immune system is working well because I haven’t gotten it and I am constantly kissing him on the face. Have to pick up some eye drops today at the pharmacy. For two days I have to put them in EVERY TWO HOURS! This should be fun! Then every four hours for 5 days after that. Not looking forward to this week.
On a side note: Jude loves going to the doctor and the nurses were all passing him around. He was very excited and even laughing at them for no apparent reason.
Also, he is about two inches from being able to put his foot in his mouth.
